As I hold you in my arms, rocking you to sleep, on the eve of your first birthday, I can truly see how far we both have come in this short time.
Tomorrow will be your first birthday and like everyday before,we are excited for you. We watched you grow from a tiny dot in my belly to the beautiful, strong willed and courageous baby you are today. You have filled our lives with so much joy, laughter and love. More than we had ever thought possible.
I remember on the night you were born, I asked the nurses if there will be anything monitoring your breathing while you slept. I knew in that moment what it truly was to be a mother.
We survived the first year together Libby. As you learned, I learned. As you grew, I grew as a person. I grew as your mother.
When I saw your amazement in the outdoors, I learned how beautiful our world was and how we shouldn’t take it for granted.
When you learned to sleep through the night, I learned what missing someone really felt like.
When you learned to eat solid foods, I learned what it meant to sit on my hands.
When you learned to crawl, I learned how independent you were growing to be.
The moment I looked into your eyes you taught me not only what it means to be a mother, but how to love unconditionally, how to accept what I don’t know, and how to learn and grow from my mistakes.
We have taught each other in so many ways Love, and I am so glad we have a lifetime together. You are more than what I hoped and dreamed you would grow to be. I’m excited to see what the next year brings you. I hope your birthday is amazing baby girl, you deserve it and so much more.
